MATHPSYCH.ORG — Dr. Guy Hawkins was presented with the prestigious William K. Estes Early Career Award (2020) on July 31, 2020, for exceptional published research in the field of mathematical psychology by an early career researcher. Dr. Hawkins won the hotly contested prize over eight other nominees, all of whom received their Ph.D. no more than eight years ago.
Dr. Hawkins earned his PhD in 2013 and his Bachelor of Psychology (Honours 1) in 2008, both at the University of Newcastle, Australia. From 2014-2016 Guy was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Amsterdam Brain and Cognition Center, University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Dr. Hawkins is a Lecturer in the School of Psychology, University of Newcastle, Australia. His research focusses on developing and testing computational and mathematical models of cognitive processes, with a primary interest in decision-making. His research has been recognized with a number of prestigious awards, including the Faculty of Science Award for Early Career Research and Innovation Excellence, the Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award, and the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Early Career Research and Innovation Excellence.
