#ShamelessSelfpromotion? We’re just levelling the playing field

Abstract

A broad range of studies show that the cards are stacked against women*: We are less likely to be invited, hired, promoted, celebrated, and – let’s face it – paid appropriately. At the same time, we are biased to not be bold, to not put ourselves forward, and thus to not shine as brightly as we could. In this symposium, we will discuss possible strategies to overcome these very real and damaging hurdles and look at different examples and experiences to map the space of possibilities. Christina Bergmann is a cognitive scientist by training, who combines cognitive modelling with behavioral and meta-scientific approaches to uncover what underlies early language development. Throughout her career, she advocated for academia to be open to all, for example by co-founding compcog.science (go check it out / sign up!) and the Paris chapter of R-Ladies. Her current role as academic recruiter allows her to pursue this goal full time. Christina is happy to chat about networking, social media (LinkedIn, Bluesky), blogging (cogtales.wordpress.com), being a working parent, and the opportunities that lie in non-linear career paths.
