MATHPSYCH.ORG —
Peter Kvam, Ph.D., was named winner of the prestigious Society for Mathematical Psychology William K. Estes Early Career Fellow Award (2024) on July 21, 2024, for exceptional published research in the field of mathematical psychology by an early career researcher. Dr. Kvam won the highly competitive award from a pool of ten nominees, all of whom received their Ph.D. no more than eight years ago.
Dr. Kvam’s nominators highlighted his growing body of work impacting Mathematical psychology: “An impressive aspect of Peter’s record is that not only has he demonstrated his ability to produce strong independent works…but he has also simultaneously done some very impactful work with everyone he has worked with.” They praised Dr Kvam’s “ability to elevate the quality of the science around him.”
Dr. Kvam earned his Ph.D. from Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan in 2017. He then held positions as a postdoctoral researcher at Indiana University, Bloomington and The Ohio State University before joining the Department of Psychology faculty at the University at Florida, Gainesville, Florida, in 2019. In 2024, he moved to the faculty at The Ohio State University. He is the author of many publications across a range of journals including the Society for Mathematical Psychology affiliate journal, Journal of Mathematical Psychology, and many other top-tier publications. In addition to the Estes Early Career Award, he has received recognition for his research with an Association for Psychological Science Rising Star award, Fellowship in the Psychonomic Society, and the 2021 R Duncan Luce Outstanding Paper Award for the Journal of Mathematical Psychology, as well receiving as a Prestigious CAREER grant from the National Science Foundation.
